1. Structures with high symmetry
We have studied the form-finding and stability of prismatic and 'star' tensegrity structures, which are of dihedral symmetry.
The prismatic tensegrity structures are proved to be super stable if and only if the horizontal cables are connected by the adjacent nodes, and a JAVA 3D based program has been developed to provide interactive vision.
The 'star' tensegrity structures are proved to be super stable if they have odd number of struts, while the struts are as close as possible to each other.
The structure, which is of permutation symmetry and was origianlly studied by Bob Connelly, has also been visualized by a JAVA 3D based program.
